June 29th 2009 - Magnificent Portland Stone Façade

After 30 years of chasing down interesting ideas to salvage, it never ceases to amaze even the most hardened of salvagers what fate turns up! Our dismantlers were recently called to a working quarry on Portland Bill whereupon we discovered a magnificent Portland stone façade.

This incredibly well preserved architectural gem was originally commissioned for Ludgate Hill, EC4 next to St.Paul's Cathedral at a cost of £50,000 (when that was still an enormous amount of money).
The façade was constructed as a model for a project to disguise a memorial garden adjacent to St. Paul's Cathedral. It remained in-situ throughout the late twentieth century until MASCo arrived.

The building is now available at our Minchinhampton Yard. It is in perfect condition, has good patina and is very adaptable. It would make a formidable pool house or mask a multiple garage housing vintage cars!
