Mill/Staddle Stones Garden Ornaments

A traditional feature of any early farmyard would have been storage barns set on staddle stones. The stones were used as plinths to build raised barns, protecting the hay stores from rodents. Staddle stones are generally in two sections - the base shaped into a four sided block and a rounded flat top - hence the poplar name of 'mushroom'. These practical building stones have become a popular feature in Cotswold gardens and entrances.
All heights and shapes are available made from local limestone. Many have wonderful shapes and patination. Likewise mill stones have been retrieved from farms where traditional equipment is no longer used in the processing grinding wheat.
